Secondary Employment of Law Enforcement
The Bee Cave Police Department allows employees who are commissioned peace officers to work in a Secondary Employment “Off Duty” capacity in accordance with Bee Cave Police Department policies, state and local laws. Peace Officers engage in Off Duty Employment as independent contractors.
A Bee Cave Police Officer’s primary responsibility while working in an “Off Duty” status, in uniform or in plain clothes, is the enforcement of federal and state laws and city ordinances; to protect life and property and to keep the peace. Officers engaged in a secondary employment job will not refuse to assist any citizen requesting or needing assistance and can be called away from any secondary employment job if an emergency arises.
It is at the discretion and availability of the Bee Cave Police Department whether a general police officer or a supervisor will be assigned to any given request.
Payment shall be given to the officer assigned to an event at the conclusion of the event.
Events with attendance over 50 people will require two officers for security and safety of all.
Peace Officer Rates – per officer with a 4-hour minimum:
- General Security – $75/hr
- Supervisors (determined by complexity of request) – $85/hr
- Police Bicycle Certified Officer – $75/hr
- Emergency Situations (less than 48 hour notice) – $85/hr
Vehicle Rate - $20/hr, 2-hour minimum
If a vehicle is requested, $20 per hour with a 2-hour minimum applies, and a separate check must be submitted to the City of Bee Cave.
